Although it sounds like an understatement, Marc Jacobs told us that “it’s been great” to
have work with Louis Vuitton house for sixteen years. His departure clearly shows in his
final collection as the mournful note of the loss prodigal talent – black.
Marc Jacobs is the showman/fashion designer: Everything about the fashion show is all
extravagant, gothic, and glam as we saw a series of flashbacks from Marc Jacobs’s hit in
both runway and collection with carousels, old-fashioned elevators, and train stations in
stage setting while models rocks with a large feather headdresses with a showgirl
persona.
Clearly the bold and risqué fashion designer has taken Louis Vuitton to another level
from bags and trunks to a desirable brand in the world. He created LV logo as the ‘it’
thing. From scarves to clothes, women all over the world want to have a piece of LV as
soon as it’s off the runway with business valued from $20 million to $1 billion during his
tenure; it’s certainly a no mean feat.
Although nearly all 41 ready-to-wear pieces consist of black, feathers (we’re talking big,
bad ostrich feathers here designed by Stephen Jones), sparkling beads, texture, and
rosettes add the detailed to otherwise plain outfit. The runway also shows a diverse
collection that shows casual to avant-garde style dress that impresses all.
The RTW pieces certainly will be instant collector’s item within a few weeks.
American vibe is certainly in the air (particularly to the worn jeans featured prominently
in the collection), perhaps it’s the Marc’s way to show his roots injected into the French
fashion house. Not surprisingly, American press gives a standing ovation at the end of
the show.
Heavily beaded black dresses, sheer dress and tops with cropped worn jeans (a tribute
to the American roots), biker jackets coupled with ruffles, beads, and rosettes, plus
small bucket bags embellished with sparkly beads and glossy feathers that produced a
great combo of luxury, bold, and edgy feel.
The final collection are also dedicated to “The women who inspire me and the showgirl
in all of them,” ticking off a number of names that include from Edith Piaf, Judy Garland,
Liza Minnelli, to Lady Gaga.
Louis Vuitton is certainly bittersweet.
So what’s next for Marc Jacobs? After LV, Marc is planning to focus his own brand with
his longtime business partner Robert Duffy for the planned anonymous label. Rumor has
it that Nicolas Ghesquiere from Balenciaga is poised to take over LVMH but in the
meantime, let’s wait for the news while we enjoy the last collection for this season.
